Conservatives welcome victory for the Gurkhas

Andrew celebrates victory with the Ghurkhas

Conservative Parliamentary Candidate  Andrew Griffiths has hailed a “great victory for the Ghurkas and Joanna Lumley” after the Government finally announced they will allow Gurkhas to settle in the UK.Andrew joined Ghurkhas in celebrations outside the Houses of Parliament asthe announcement was made.  He applauded the actress for having “publicly embarrassed” Labour Ministers and “reminding us all of the role that the Gurkhas have played in helping defend this country over the centuries”.Andrew said, “I am overjoyed that justice has been done.  The Ghurkas have risked their lives to defend our liberty, and we owe a debt to them for their bravery.  It is shameful how our government was treating them. There was never a justification to deny the right to settle here to a group of people who have long lived in the nation’s affections.  It is a shame that the Government had to be dragged kicking and screaming through the Courts and embarrassed in front of the British public before it finally did the right thing.”
