Conservatives say no to youth service cuts

Cllr Bob Fraser

Conservative County Councillor are demanding that devastating cuts to the youth service acrss the County are scrapped.  Bob Fraser, the Conservative representative on Staffordshire County Council for the Dove division, has warned that young people in the county will receive fewer or even no services if proposed cost-saving measures are given the go-ahead.

Councillor Fraser, who is also shadow cabinet member for children and young people at the county council, said the authority's Conservative group would be asking the Labour-controlled cabinet to reconsider the cuts.

Bob said: "If we want safe and strong communities it is vital we try to support our young people in Burton and Uttoxeter.”

"If the youth service reduces the volume of its activity it will mean that many young people will get less and some young people who currently get some provision will get none.

Announcing that Conservatives would oppose the plans, Bob added: "Our view is that an effective youth service will mean more resources and lead to our young people having an opportunity for involvement in their community."
